Description

"A robust character with a subtle soul." This is the best way to describe this special Assam tea from India. Located in the so-called Moran Circle of the Sivasagar district in the Assam region of India, the famous Thowra Gardens are highly respected by connoisseurs. The Assam teas produced by this plantation are considered – due to both the quality of the bushes and the characteristic terroir – to be the best available.

Like all Assam teas, the tea plants descend from a wild variety of the tea plant (Camellia Sinensis Assamica). This plant is more robust than the regular Sinensis variety and this is reflected in the taste. This particular Assam-tea from Thowra come from a 'second flush' (summer harvest) and have rich, robust malty notes, with a characteristic spicy edge. The stiff tea leaves from this production have an abundance of golden tips (Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe), which ensures a copper-coloured infusion and round flavours.

Assam teas – most of which are grown at or near sea level – are known for their rich body, vibrancy and malty notes, as well as a strong and bright colour. Assam T.G.F.O.P. “Thowra” is no exception. This tea has all the nuances one would expect from a top quality Assam: a robust, full aroma with notes of caramel, cocoa, followed by hints of malty, sweet raisins, dates and stone fruit. Assam Thowra is unique and we are proud to offer it to you in our selection.
