Rooibos (or: Aspalathus Linearis) originates from South Africa and is being cultivated since the 1930s for the production of a tea-like beverage. The production process is similar to that of tea from Camellia Sinensis.
The rooibos needles are picked, mashed and put to dry in the sun. During this drying the leaves oxidize and turn into their distinctive orange-brown colour. Rooibos doesn’t contain caffeine or tannin as regular tea leaves do. Rooibos has sweet, often fruity notes and is packed with anti-oxidants, calcium and iron. A really healthy alternative and also very suitable as an alcohol-free nightcap.
